Ethics in ECE!

NAYEC  CODE OF ETHICAL CONDUCT AND STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT
1-1.3 To Recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each child.
(I believe this one is the one that is the easiest to forget.  Adults forget often that children are their own person and are constantly seeking guidance.  Children often get ideas and thoughts and ideas imposed on them because adults do not respect their individuality.

1-1.9 To Advocate for and ensure that all children, including those with special needs, have a ccess to the support services needed to be successful.
(That is what motivate me; I get up in the morning and look forward to work because of the experiences I acquire to increase my efficacy as a professional.

CODE OF ETHICS
 2. We shall honor and respect the rights, knowledge, and skills of the multidisciplinary colleagues with whom we work recognizing their unique contributions to children, families, and the field of early childhood special education.
(Because reform is impossible alone professional must respect the thoughts of others and use them to refine personal vision)

  1. Wonderful comments to the codes of ethics. Children are their own person and have ideas but alot of people are not open to listening to them. Children are born into the world needing guidance to grow up as successful members of society, but to get to that point children need early childhood education professionals that have the passion to give them the education that they deserve.

    You are so right.How often as adults we forget that children are not blank slates upon which we can write whatever we desire. This we can safely say we have experienced in our classrooms when they remind us of who they really are in their refusal to do a particular task.Sometimes I do smile within when I remember that they are experiencing who they want to become and not what I want them to be.That is why early childhood professionals have to be extremely patient as they guide these little people into whom they really should become.

  4. Annie, every teacher is an advocate for children. We need to protect them from harm, or any kind of abuse, but at times we fall short because of the nature of the offence. About ten years ago, a student told her teacher about her father molesting her, but before this matter got to the relevant authorities, he realized the police will be involved, so he went to the school and stabbed the teacher to death.Actually, this took place in one of my neighbouring islands. Sometimes, we fear for our lives.
